Cambria Hotel Washington DC Capitol Riverfront Opens in Southwest DC – Washington, DC celebrates Cambria Hotel Washington DC Capitol Riverfront’s opening within the vibrant Capitol Riverfront and Buzzard Point neighborhoods at 69 Q Street, SW. The nine-story 154-room upscale hotel joins Southwest’s newest mixed-use community, overlooking the Anacostia and Potomac rivers at a central point to Audi Field, Nationals Park, and the Yards Marina.
The project is a joint venture between Koucar Management and The Donohoe Companies, Inc. Donohoe’s Development, Construction, Hospitality, and Facilities Management divisions contributed to bringing the project from concept to completion in a little over two years.
“Delivering the project on time despite a global pandemic is a testament to the high-quality team of designers, consultants, contractors, and government agencies that worked on the project, as well as the collaborative relationship fostered with the local community,” said Steve Colangelo, vice president at Donohoe Development. “We owe a special thanks to all our team members that had boots on the ground as the project successfully advanced despite the uncertainty that COVID-19 brought to the world over the last year.”
Amenities at the new hotel include sophisticated guest rooms with spa-style bathrooms, 24-hour room service, a state-of-the-art fitness center, RowHouse full-service restaurant with patio seating, meeting and events space overlooking the Capitol, and free pet access; Rocco, the hotel’s onsite director of furry friend relations, welcomes his friends with a unique gift basket. A hotel highlight is the 3,500 square foot rooftop terrace offering skyline views with ample seating and firepits centered around the Perch SW rooftop lounge. Locally inspired decor displays the architecture and history of the area with featured maps and prints depicting local landmarks. The design team, led by BBGM Architects and DiLeonardo (interior design), incorporated the cornice from the site’s original row house above the reception desk to weave the past, present, and future of Southwest D.C. into the hotel.
“It was critical for us to ensure that we were becoming part of the neighborhood we’re joining,” said General Manager Elif Sen. The hotel honors the legacy of Delores C. Mack, a staple in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood and passionate in her work with The Southwest Community House, by naming the ninth-floor meeting space in her honor, noted with a special plaque hung outside the room. To reiterate the hotel’s connection to the community, the development team commissioned historians Marjorie Lightman, PhD. and William Zeisel, PhD. to create Reflections: The Southeast/Southwest Waterfront, a unique book of walking tours displayed in each guest room that tells the story of this historic part of the city that the hotel now calls home.
An official grand opening celebration at the hotel will be held later this year.
